Partus 2016 evolved from a series of live performances, which took as a starting point a CTG trace of a medicalised labour. Using the trace as a score, Partus combined processed recordings, electronic samples and the voices of singers Maggie Nicols and Emily Laurens to create an immersive journey through the primal rhythms of birth. As the work evolved, the focus shifted; exploring transitional states of consciousness underpinning the ebb and flow of human experience. The re-worked musical element is combined with footage shot in the Pembrokeshire countryside, which surrounds the artists’ homes, to draw the viewer into a meditative contemplation. Filming Andy Wheddon and Ruth Jones, Soundtrack Andy Wheddon, editing Ruth Jones and Sharron Harris.
